Background

Tom Liniak is a cum laude graduate of Boston University with degrees in both mathematics and economics and the American University School of Law. He is a member of the Bar of the State of Maryland, as well as the American and Maryland Bar Associations.


Intellectual Property

Prior to launching his own firm, Mr. Liniak was a co-founder and senior partner in the the firm of Liniak, Berenato & White, which he helped to build into the largest intellectual property firm in the State of Maryland. He was the recipient of the 10th Anniversary Distinguished Service Award  form the Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts for his outstanding, innovative and extensive legal work with arts organizations and individual involved in the arts. He was elected  to serve as the Chairman of the Intellectual Property Section of the Montgomery County Bar Association. 


Mr. Liniak has served as a court approved expert witness on the subjects of intellectual property practice and procedure, trademark law and ethics.  He has extensive experience in all aspects of securing evaluating, and licensing intellectual property rights. He has also litigated many complex cases for clients across the country and in foreign jurisdictions. Mr. Liniak has been a featured speaker on a wide variety of intellectual property issues for bar associations and business groups.

Business and Contracts

Mr. Liniak served as the Chief Operating Officer of a Maryland bioinformatics company. During his tenure he took the company from concept through a highly successful nationwide product distribution . He has participated on CMMI appraisal teams and has been retained as a legal advisor and business and contract consultant for numerous for-profit and non-profit companies. Mr. Liniak has also served as the Executive Director of a non-profit for 10 years. His extensive business experience gained from 'both sides of the table" give him a unique perspective on legal issues and make him an invaluable resource

Disability Issues

Mr. Liniak's work for those with disabilities and their families has been groundbreaking and invaluable. He is the co-founder of the award winning non-profit Sports Plus, which provides unique instructional sports, social, camp and early workforce training programs for children and teens with autism and other developmental disabilities. He was awarded a special  commendation by the Montgomery County Council in 2013, the 2012 Nancy Dworkin Outstanding Service to Youth Award and was a nominee for the 2010 Lindt Unsung Heroes of Autism Award and the 2010 Major League Baseball Heroes Among Us Award. Sports Plus programs have garnered extensive media coverage and have been the subject of a research study conducted by the University of Colorado.


Mr. Liniak is also a recognized expert and innovator in the field of employment for those with autism and other disabilities. Programs and techniques that he has pioneered and implemented have led to record results for job candidates at two different non-profits. He currently serves as the Director of Specialized Employment Services at the Jewish Social Services Agency (JSSA) in metropolitan Washington DC. His work has been featured on WJLA-TV7 and led JSSA to be named disability employment Provider of the Year in the State of Maryland.
